About the Altar
The main figure is St. Catherine of Alexandria. She was not only Patron saint of hospitals but also she was the patron of astronomers, engineers, jurists and philosophers, too. The predella, the lower part of the altar, contains five smaller scenes from the life of St. Catherine. From the left and right of Catherine are two very popular Patron saints of the Middle Ages: St. Roch, who was the patron of sick and fallen persons and St. Barbara, the patron of the miners (Telkibánya was one of the royal gold mining town). Two-two smaller pictures from their life complete the Altar. The Altar made by more than 100 years old local oak. The Altar is five square metres (100" x 80").
