On the territories rich in forests of Europe, for example in Hungary and Transylvania was for a long time the main building material the wood. The wooden ceilings, pediments, balconies and other woodworks were often by painting ornamented. You can see also today some painted carpenter’s structures in their original environment typically in churches, however, the painter-carpenter masters of olden times nowadays do not exist. That is why Zoltan Joo wanted renewing this ancient trade making his works in this way of course not without any foregoing. The painter-carpenters painted the pictures direct on the timber-structure with tempera. Usually, there were made ornamented panels. It happened only rarely the painting of figures. Most of the topics were chosen of the Old Testament, mythology, history and legends. The representation was often naïve and many times very humorous, without any restriction of space and form. This particular atmosphere of paintings inspired Zoltan Joo to revive this ancient trade. His works are made in this spirit using materials of today, in the hope of keeping the original atmosphere.
